Radon is a radioactive gas that comes from the natural decay of material in the earth. You cannot see it, touch it or smell it, so the only way to know a building’s level is to test. Commercial Inspection Carolina (CIC) provides radon testing for commercial buildings across North and South Carolina.

Why radon matters
Radon has been linked to lung cancer and is second only to smoking as a cause. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends mitigation when the radon level reads 4.0 pCi/L or higher. More information is available on the EPA website.
How CIC tests for radon
We use an active testing device that records radon levels every hour and produces an overall average for the building. The device must stay in the building for a minimum of 48 hours. Depending on the size of the building, additional devices may be required.
What you receive
After testing is complete, you receive a report showing each hourly reading and the overall average, so you can compare it against the EPA action level and decide on next steps.
